I designed a compact, foldable gaming controller that attaches directly to a mobile phone. The controller can be disassembled and used as a phone stand, making it both portable and multifunctional. The controller was designed to prioritize small size, with minimal compromise on comfort, while integrating multiple practical features.
When the top panel is pushed upward, two side levers secure the top panel in place.
Pressing down on the levers allows the panel to move back to the folding position, with two small pins stopping the panel from moving further.
If keep pushing with force, the top panel will be disassembled. The mechanism on the rear of the panel then allows it to extend into a phone stand, enabling the user to place their phone on a table and play games comfortably at a distance.
Modern Android phones can run lightweight Windows games, but playing them with touch controls is far from ideal. Controllers could offer a much better experience.
I noticed most mobile controllers on the market are bulky, not portable enough, and usually overpriced.
So, based on a cheap controller I bought online, I redesigned a fully compatible case in Fusion 360 and fabricated the components using a 3D printer.
